[request] auto rocket update feature

Is there any chance to get rocket to check for updates from the FTP while the engine is running (either periodically or manually) i know installing over older versions is a bad idea at this stage, but maybe we could have it check for updates and give the option to overwrite the previous installation or to a new location.

It could include a balloon widget (windows task bar maybe) that pops up when it finds something, and when opened reveals the change log.

What’s the proper way to get updates right now ?

Wait for leslie to email us with new builds to download from the FTP. no point checking unless you get an email.

Hi Marc - actually, we have something in the works that’s very similar to this. Our idea is to have a badge within the editor that will notify users if there’s an update. Folks can then choose to update their build if desired. We definitely don’t want to do that automatically as users will want to control project breaks that arise out of new code changes.

Right now, we’re transitioning from using the FTP server to Amazon’s content delivery system. That should make downloads a lot faster and management a lot more efficient.

Great news  are you guys thinking about some redundancy checks, so user can rollback any updates installed? just in case one should update to find a bug that breaks something horribly like foliage, or viewport performance with select GPU driver versions?

We’ve thought about that too but are still in the brainstorming phases. If anything, we might roll out the initial system which checks for updates, and maybe rollback functionality in a later beta.

That is a good bit of information
