Switching to foliage painting mode crashes editor when i run the cursor over the landscape

In my current level, switching to foliage painting mode crashes editor when i run the cursor over the landscape. Just does every single time. What can i do to help solve this? Problem is instantly repeatable… easily…

It only happens to crash when the cursor is over certain areas.

Hi kurylo3d,

We need steps to reproduce this on our end, as I attempted to reproduce this in a blank project and did not get the crash to occur. Providing us with your crash logs will also be helpful.

Thanks,

I really couldnt tell you how. THis scene has come from many different versions of unreal… foliage moved to different sublevels and added into different levels at one point … i dont know… its just weird at this point all this level has been through. At one point i probably recreated the terrain and deleted the old terrain yet kept all the foliage in another sub level maybe… then created a new terrain…

Alls I can do is replicate the crash and send you the info at this point.

There is not enough information to be able to reproduce this crash on my end, so I need a way to do this in a blank project in order to enter the bug. Providing just the logs is not going to be enough for our engineers to fix this crash.

Thanks,

H.

Dont the logs tell you anything about the crash itself? Something that could give a clue or give me a clue as to why?

I mean attempting to replicate this issue from scratch would be more work then doing all the terrain and foliage from scratch for a new level. Not to mention that i may never be able to replicate it in a blank project.

Well, even if we had the logs and they gave us an idea of what is going on, we still need to reproduce the crash internally in order to fix it. A friendly reminder that it the responsibility of the user reporting the issue to narrow down the cause, and provide that information to us so we can fix it on our end.

I am going to mark this as resolved until more information is provided regarding reproducing the crash. Once you have that info, just re-comment here and we can continue our investigation.

Thank you,

H

I have narrowed it down to the actual foliage “actor” itself… its not terrain or anything. When i click and delete the foliage actor itself i could drag the paint foliage cursor all over the place and paint new foliage… But i dont want to delete all the currently made foliage to do it all over from scratch. Any advice on how i can copy it or save the old foliage?

I would try and deleting the Saved and Intermediate folders as those could be holding on to some stick information that is causing the crash to occur. You might also want to try resetting your layout, as it could be an issue with slate and your foliage at its current state. You could also try duplicating the foliage and deleting the original or perhaps even moving the current broken foliage to an empty level, then hiding that level when you need to paint. I would try all if not some of these to see what happens.

Thanks,

H.

holy ■■■■… thank you so much! That seems to have worked… I deleted saved and intermediate folders… then reset layout and gave it a try… SO far no crash… and previously the crash was instant and very reproducable… so far i ahve not crashed at all.
