Need some help with a VR Car Configrator

Hey guys,

I’m a student from Germany and totally new to UE4 needing some help with my project for the university. I have to build a car configurator in VR and have no idea how to set the Blueprints for an Ingame menu for changing materials, geometries etc. like the guy in this video: AMG real time VR play with Oculus CV1 - YouTube at 1:34 min. I want to add these menus for changing car color, rims, interior color, walls and floor using the HTC Vive Motion Controller. Can someone please help me with that issue? Another question is if someone knows how to bring heavy CAD Data of a whole car to UE4. Heard of that software named PiXYZ Plugin 4 Unreal but there’s only a 7 days trial version coming in early May. That’s too late for me. Is there another solution managing that?

I will be thankful for every advice.

Greetz and thanks

Hey this is a big topic and I doubt you’ll get step by step instructions here.

For the VR menu checking the official documentation for the 3D widgets - Creating 3D Widget Interaction | Unreal Engine Documentation

I think that’s enough to build a group of widgets to initiate various actions.

As for importing heavy CAD data. The latest version of the engine has de-featuring and polygon reduction tools that should do the trick nicely.

Also, in the static mesh editor you can reduce the number of polygons or triangles by a percentage. It works pretty good. (sorry can’t find the documentation but the option should be easy to find on the right hand side).

haha I just realised this is from 3 years ago. This questions popped up in the queue due to the recent comment. I hope your project went well
