Crash on cloth paint tool

Crashing after clicking on Asset under ClothPaint tab.
Version from promoted branch 4.17.0-0+UE4.

UE4.16 Preview 1 same crash.

Hi Leaffall,

A ticket for this crash was entered a few hours ago (UE-44429). While I was looking into this, I was able to use the ClothPaint tool without any problems on some other skeletal meshes that I imported. One thing that I noticed with your mesh is that the root bone is not at the top of the bone hierarchy. Does it work if you make the top bone the root bone?

Thanks for answer, I really mess with it problem. I think I got pretty the same problem with 3ds max apex plugin and separate nvidia program (Not crash, but weird behavior).
Actually, I use blender for that project, to generate characters through Manuel Bastioni Lab add-on. The root bone working strange, yes. After importing to UE4 it makes the root an actual mesh, something like that (like mesh_name->root->…). That broke a root motion for me. I will try modify the skeleton in Maya and check how it works.

Hi again. A tried to modify root, everything works fine now. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but collision and paint works weird … From some angles mesh disappears and I see only vertices. The placement is strange too. Simulated normals shows on this strange place.

I am glad to hear that the crash has stopped occurring for you. Unfortunately the Cloth Paint tool will remain experimental in 4.16, and we do not yet have any formal documentation explaining how it works. The tool itself is not yet widely used internally, and what I know about it is just what I saw in the tool when I was looking into this yesterday.
