How to backup the engine and new vaults?

Hi. How can I backup the engine and new vaults? I simply copied the 4.2 folder won’t be recognized by launcher after I copied back to a newly installed one.

When you download something from the Marketplace now it’s placed in the Vault, the Vault copy is basically like the stored backup now, when you want to create a project using the downloaded game content projects, click Create Project for the project in the Vault which makes an editable copy of the project from the stored Vault one. The Launcher gives the option to select and download the engines and will list the engines in the Engine Slots.

At this point I’d just leave the downloadable content and engine backup on their end remotely, except for the Github source code version of the engine, the new launcher improves how you manage your projects and storage, but it’s good idea to keep a backup of your projects though. You can always re-download the engine(s) and sample content again later if you need too unless they change that for some reason in future to curb bandwidth costs from all the bulk downloading, which I hope they don’t as things are more manageable like this at the moment.

If you do want to back it up manually the old fashioned way, the VaultCache and Engine Backups are located in the installation folder:

Examples:

Engine:
C:\UE4\Launcher\Backup

Vault:
C:\UE4\Launcher\VaultCache

I’d install the launcher, download the engine you want to use via the launcher and fresh install it, then copy the VaultCache to the new installation of the launchers VaultCache and the launcher should detect it.

If you wanna try copying the installed engine files over you can get those in the main installation folder, such as:
C:\UE4\4.0

C:\UE4\4.1

C:\UE4\4.2

Etc…

If there’s a problem for instance if it doesn’t find the 2 previous engines you had installed, such as 4.0 and 4.1, you’ll see something like this with repair option, you can click the repair button and it should download and install the engine of those specific versions. Also click Verify after you do that for the specific engine(s) you installed to make sure it’s all good.

I just tested this and those methods work on my end, good luck!

No. I mean I’ve downloaded the launcher & vaults on my computer home. I want to use it on my computer at work. as well. Then I want to backup it to my workplace.

Hi Seto,

To back up your projects from home onto your workplace, you first will need to follow the steps listed by KnightTechDev above. After this, I would use an FTP server such as dropbox to bring your home data to your workplace pc.
