First person Archvis player for Occulus Rift

How can I set up a first person archvis character for the occulus rift. If I start from the FP template the character is halfway through the floor and I cannot figure out how to offset it correctly. I have looked at the documentation for camera refactor and it suggests using a scene node and parenting the cam to it then, but thats not working for me. Would it be better to build it from scratch? It really just needs to be simple movement for walking and exploring.
