High DPI screens and Font Scaling

editor does not properly support Window’s font scaling (high DPI) system, which results in editor looking extremely fugly with fonts very blurry.

Any plans on fixing this? It makes process of booting into Bootcamp (on a Retina MacBook Pro) that much more annoying to use this tool.

Hi David,

I am investigating this issue and can see that there is more blur when zoom to Large (150%). I am in process of writing up a bug report for this issue and will be referencing this thread. I would also like to know what resolution setting you are using, as blur may not be as noticeable with some of our developers machine’s settings.

Also, out of curiosity, how well does editor perform using bootcamp on your Retina?

Thank you for your feedback,

Alexander

I’m running at native resolution of 2880x1800 at 150% font-scaling. If I run at that resolution, editor performance is pretty poor. For example, open up “stylized” demolet, and scene gets about 10FPS.

However, if I drop resolution down to 1680x1050 (front scaling 100%), scene performance is OK - about 30 FPS, if I remember correctly.

Often times, when I’m in Windows, I simply use my external display as my only display (better for game performance). It runs at 1920x1080 and performance is ok there too.

Alright, thank you very much. I have added bug report and included your details. Let me know if anything else is not behaving as expected.

Thank you,

Alexander

I have a Yoga 2 Pro and it doesn’t have any appearance issues with scaling. It does have performance issues, but since its an intel HD, that’s to be expected.

Im running UE4.1.0 on Win7 and also see ugly fonts in editor. All tabs, menus etc. are bit blurry.

Im on native screen res, fullhd. Nvidia.
Can provide more info if needed.

thx
