Can I use trademarked 3D models for a demo?

Hello,

My question is not really related to UE4 but game/application development.

Let me demonstrate it: Let’s say I make an automotive application using UE4 for BMW as a demo using 3D models with their trademarks. I would show them as a demo trying to sell it, then I would show it to their dealers maybe they are interested. There are other vehicle companies as well, let’s show them too maybe they will be interested.

Is it illegal to use trademarked models like that? If so, how could I do it legally?

I’m not your lawyer so I can’t give you legal advice. I can say that, as a general matter, automotive manufacturers are pretty diligent about policing their intellectual property so I think it’s safe to say that they are not supportive of unauthorized uses. If your only use is pitching to the manufacturer their own IP, then maybe they don’t care.

Wow that was quick. Thank you! Still waiting for others input as well on this.

I think you misunderstood, I would only want to sell them the idea of the application so they would hire me. I would not sell any trademarked assets or sell an application which contains them.

Let’s say you you own a car company, I make a demo with your cars in it, and I send a video of it to you asking if you would want my services and build that application for you.

Using trademarked models and trying to sell them for profit is a very good way to find a lawsuit at your doorstep
