How to export bake and export animations?

Hey there.

I have a little problem using the animation and rigging toolkit.
I now have a fully rigged and animated character in maya that I now want to export and import to UE4.
I baked keys to the joint hirarchy and exported as an fbx. When I try to import the animation into UE4 it doesnt recognize the fbx as an animation file.

“Warning: Asset does not appear to correspond to selected rype, and may not import correctly”

What can I do to get my animations to UE4?

Hi DAkAR -

Have you imported the Skeletal Mesh into the editor already? If not try to choose the Skeletal Mesh import and check import Animation with the name of your animation typed in.

If you have imported a Skeletal Mesh already did you select it in the Animation FBX import window?

Thank You

Hi Eric

Yes to both questions!
I had 2 seperate fbx files, one containing the characters mesh and rig, but no animation.
The other one contained the baked animation.

I imported the skeletal mesh first, no trouble here.
But when I tried to import the animation.fbx, it wants me to import a static mesh. When I switch to the animation tab, I get the former mentioned error. Funny thing is, when double clicking the mesh in the content browser, its shows me the animation file in it, which is actually working.
Still I dont trust the error …

btw: Why is the yellow button, to define which editor version to start, allways changing back to 4.0.2 after each restart? can I stop it doing that?

Hi DAkAR -

Ok, check your FBX with Animation only and it should not have any mesh component at all. If it does, then you will get that warning, but it will still import the animation correctly as long as you select the correct skeleton in the Animation Import window. For your Animation only FBX it should just have the bones and the Animation keyed data.

For your other question, I would try to look in the Editor Preferences but I have not come across this problem before. If you are stilling having a problem, post a new question about it in install and setup and well try to help you.

Thank You
