Can I change suffixes of newly created assets to be prefixes by default?

I really like to have prefixes instead of suffixes because its way easier to search trough that way. Can I customize this and add custom names to them myself for my own purposes? I find myself fixing names to often for this to be effective. It will save me a lot of work.

Surffixes and Perfixes of what?

right haha. of “make material” for instance or sound cue. or anything that gives me an automatic suffix for names

Hey fanzypantz,

When you create a new asset in Content Browser from another asset, such as a new Material or Material Instance, it fills in name with a suffix of new asset’s type. There isn’t a way to change this to be prefixes by default, but it does give you a chance to adjust new asset’s name before accepting it. If suffix would work as a prefix, you can Cut and Paste it, or you can rename whole thing if you have a custom naming preference for your assets.

Best,

Well if I use correct name on import, it would take me two clicks and press of enter key to make these materials and other things. But things like audio is annoying to rename all time because there is a lot of audio files and audio cues that will be renamed. It would be nice to see some sort of auto-rename if there isn’t already or settings for that. Is this hardcoded or is there an INI file somewhere with these names?

But since it is standard as suffixes, what do you think is pro’s about suffixes rather than prefixes?

You can certainly bring this up on forums as a poll and see if there’s some additional user support for your idea. We don’t have a formal feature request system, but we do pay attention to what users are for and that’s one of places we look. Certainly worth a shot!

There isn’t any particular reason I’m aware of for suffix over prefix choice, but it’s probably just standard workflow for Epic teams. Of course, this is all exposed in Source, so option to edit engine is there for you as well.
