[BUG] Failed to open map file

When I start a certain test projects level made just last night, I now get an error on start up this morning.

Failed to open map file. This is most likely because the map was saved with a newer version of the engine.

Rocket starts with an untitled level with nothing in it.

Are you 100% sure that you have opened the map with the same version of the UE4? It could be that you have 2 different versions on your pc ad you have opened it with the wrong one ^^

Yep, I have only been involved with the September release, only 1 installation of Rocket,

Hi Robert,

I will be helping with this issue. Can you please give me a copy of the project and level in question? I will run a few tests and see if I can not get to the bottom of this issue.

Thank you,

Alexander

Of course, It will be on the FTP under the Saxon directory.
-EDIT- Files are uploaded. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Robert,

I have been investigating the problem and am getting the error you are seeing. I have a couple of questions to help in my testing. Do any other projects give you this error? Can you create new projects without the error? Past the initial message, are their any strange behaviors in editor?

Thanks,

Alexander

Nope, and yes. This has actually been the only hiccup so far.

Alright, I investigated this issue further and found the output log was giving back this error:

LogLinker:Warning: Unable to load package (…/…/…/…/…/Saxon/MyProject/Content/Maps/Example_Map.umap). Post Tag is not valid. File might be corrupted.

So the map is corrupted, but your project is still looking good. I have been unsuccessful at recreating the corruption, but I created a bug report with you file attached. I will keep you updated if anything changes.

Thank you,

Alexander

I’m getting the same issue working with Beta 6. This is the second time this has happened with the same map in the last 2 days. The first time I just started over because I hadn’t made much progress, but this time I’ve been working on the map for quite a while and really don’t want to lose the work.
Any idea on how to fix this?
For me its just happening on a brand new level I created. It was able to load the latest auto save without issue, however I’m worried that its going to become corrupted again in the future and I don’t want to keep losing work. Maybe its an issue with the length of the file name or something? “Hunter_Island01” is the name of my map file.

Hi Peter,

It is not related to the name of the map, but this issue is also only occurring for a select few users. Could you please let me investigate the project and map that are experiencing the issue?

Thanks,

Alexander

Not sure if its worth the 6gig upload for the whole project. I simply took the Shooter Project as a base, renamed it to Hunter and started working on a landscape with some assets (trees) from the Racing Project as placeholder to see how things looked. I’ll upload the map and foliage (I renamed some assets) so you can get the map open in the Shooter Project.
FYI the auto bak opened and the consequent saves still work. For some reason this one map got corrupted though.
File is on the UDN FTP in a folder named PeterRyan

Hi Peter,

Thank you for this project and information. I was able to further investigate the issue. I will update if anything changes further.

Thanks!

Alexander

I am having a similar issue and I think I can elaborate on the issue. I was creating my map for the past few days. The past few hours, every time I would attempt to move an object, it would freeze up for a few seconds before the move would register. It was very laggy for some reason. I know the map was very big, but still, the specs on my PC are more than enough to handle it. Regardless, I restarted my computer and when I attempted to re-open the file, it gave me the same message. This is extremely frustrating considering all of the man hours put into the map. Please, give me a solution so I don’t have to move engines. This can’t be a possibility while developing games, what dev would use it while running into issues setting them back days? Any help you can provide would be much obliged.

Frank

Also, can someone please mark this an unresolved? There is no answer in this topic.
