What I need to do in blender before import a skeletal mesh?

Hi guys!

I want to create a game in UE 4 but before that I need to make a few models in Blender and import it to engine (these going to be a playable characters). I am a newbie in this so I have one question. What I need to do before import my model? It is enough to create and texture it and I can do all animation work in UE, or maybe I need to do something more before import?

And one more question. In what dimensions are you creating your meshes in blender? For example, do you make a flag which is 13 x 6 blender unit and scale it during export, or do you work on 130 x 60 unit and set scale to 1?

Concerning the Animations:
That depends… If you simply want to rotate or translate your model in the world, it can be achieved directly inside the engine (e.g. via blueprints). If you want to make a Character walk or jump, you have to rig it and animate it in blender with an “armature”. There are plenty of tutorials which cover this topic.

Concerning the Size:
It’s probably for the best to initially start modeling in the proper dimensions. Set your blender units to meters and lower the scale to about 0.01 - 0.05(in the “Scene”-panel). Export a simple cube to test the size.
