Importing videos for 3D overlays

Let me start by saying Hi!

I am new to Unreal Engine, but the last few days I spend playing and modifying the free content was great and I am slowly, slowy starting to get to grips with the program.

My question is: is there any way I can import video recordings into the editor, so that I can start overlaying some special effects and such?

I have some recorded material I would very much like to modify, I just fail to find a way to import the video in any known format (at least to me). Is there perhaps a converter I can use to make the video into a usable format? I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks

You’ll need to convert your videos into a series of frames, then sequence those frames as textures in a material. A tutorial can be found here: Sprite Sheet

That’s for using videos in games. On the other hand, if you’re looking to use UE4 as a special effects compositor over existing videos… you’ll likely resort to chroma-keying and composite elsewhere. Render the sky-sphere as green, pink or blue, import reference frames from your video to build upon. Build your scene and setup your Matinee, then hide the reference frame when time to Create a Movie in Matinee.
