why does my motion controller stop grabing after setting up umg navigation via pointing?

Hi, just started using ue and have hit a problem with the default VR blueprint. I want to keep the grabbing as it is but also wanted to navigate some widgets by pointing the controller like a laser pointer. I found a helpful youtube tut that adds this to the BP_MotionController:

but now the grabbing fails to work, until i delete these nodes. Any help appreciated.
