Window doesn't refresh or update

When using unreal editor or a pre cooked unreal game, I have a strange issue where the window does not update the display automatically.
For example, if I attempt to move the camera around in the viewport, I will see no change on screen until I force the window to update by moving/resizing the window on my monitor. Sadly this has made unreal engine unusable for me at the current time and I would appreciate if anyone could explain what is going wrong.

My system specs are:

  • AMD Athlon II X4
  • 8 GB RAM
  • AMD Radeon HD 7950
  • Windows 10

I have tested different a CPU and different RAM.
I have reinstalled my graphics drivers multiple times.
I have reinstalled my OS on a different hard drive.

Sadly, none of these solved the problem.

Same problem over here. No matter which UE4 version I tried, even the Project Browser won’t refresh itself. At least I found a strange “workaround” which made it, well some sort of usable again.

As long as the window of the Epic Games Launcher is open and laying behind the Unreal Editor at the desktop, everything in the Editor that is laying over the Launcher will render and update just fine. Besides the Tooltips will often just appear as black boxes and the “File/Edit/Window/Help”-dropdown menues won’t work (thats why I said some sort of usable)

My system:

  • ASRock 970 Extreme4
  • AMD FX-8120
  • 32GB RAM
  • AMD R9 280X
  • Windows 10

OS and Drivers are up to date

Hi,

The issue appears to be due to AMD’s 17.6.2 driver. I had the same issue with a (tested on two machines with two different r9 290’s) and uninstalled the driver and installed 17.4.4 and the issue no longer persists on either machine. Both machines use Windows 10.

Hopefully this solves the issue for you as well.

EDIT: I contacted AMD about the issue and sometime yesterday they released driver version 17.7.1, which they asked me to try, and it resolves the issue as well.

Thanks,

Same problem here. Reinstalled drivers. Installed 17.7.1 but nothing happened. Someone know how to fix that?
