Can someone explain to me what Alpha Composite does in the material editor?

So I have been wondering for a while, since the official documentation doesn’t even mention it; what does the AlphaComposite blending mode do? I am not all that familiar with alpha compositing in video, so when I was trying out various things, the changes that happened in the material didn’t really make a ton of sense to me.

Could someone explain to me, what influence does the base color and opacity have on the final result, as well as the uses that AlphaComposite has? From what I understood from forum posts, this was actually a requested feature, so I am going to assume it should be useful.
