Shadows in cloudy weather

Hi,

I am trying to make shadows in cloudy weather as in the second picture. As you can see, the shadows do not disappear, but become less bright. I have a question how to make such shadows. I tried to use only Skylight+DFAO without directional light, but this gives absolutely the wrong result. In the pictures, you can see the difference in the shadows when the weather changes. Two pictures only to show the difference between the shadows. The question is not about the dynamic change of weather. I’m wondering how to achieve the same result as in the second picture.

Please share how would you approach such shadows. Thank you.

Hey!

Shadow intensity is controlled by skylight and directional light intensity. With proper setup for example directional intensity 2-3, skylight intensity 0.1 or something less you can achieve this enviromnent.
You need play with colors and intensity in dir light and skylight.

After this you can try fine tune more in post process volume, because there is too some shadow color / crush and other options

At least you can try to add some cubemap to your Skylight, with cubemaps you can change enviromnent color/darkness/reflections etc… basically how your scene is illuminated.
Skylight can blend between cubemaps runtime so if cloudy sky is generated dynamically with cubemap blend you can definitly achieve this effect.

Here is a good tutorial about this: Blueprint Blending Between Multiple Skylight Cubemaps | Live Training | Unreal Engine - YouTube
