Crop width instead of height when Aspect Ratio changed?

When the user sets a resolution that changes the aspect ratio I don’t want that it changes how much is visible up and down and instead change how much is visible in the width. Should be a simple setting but I can’t find anything for it.
Constraining the aspect ration is not an option.

For me it works like this: It is searching for the right heigth.

Maybe a good starting point for others.
