The Joy of Creation: Story Mode crash on activation

I’m having an issue with TJoC: SM where it crashes on activation. I don’t think I’ve done anything incorrectly in my installation of the program. I downloaded the .zip file to my desktop, extracted the file opened the application (No I haven’t moved it), and when it starts I get this page.

If anybody has even the smallest amount of information, it would be much appreciated.

When you run The Joy Of Creation: Story Mode Patch # 3, an error occurs. I use 2 computers, so I ran a test on both computers. On the 1st computer (Windows 10) I ran this game, I gave an error (CrashReport). Launched the game on the second computer (Windows 7), the game without any comments started, set up the schedule and started playing there. Q: Why does not it work on 1 computer? After all, both computers differ only in other OS, and the drivers and programs are identical, absolutely, even the Windows settings are the same. Please help. Just really want to play on my computer (Windows 10), because it is more powerful than the second computer (Windows 7) and as they say better graphics-atmosphere games.

Hm… maybe it is just windows 10.
I got W10 before TJoC so that is likely the case.
I don’t know what the problem is but maybe it should be directly mentioned to Nikson, or something, he’s the game creator. I don’t have the ability to contact him on any platform but hey maybe you can.

I don’t know if it will work for you guys but try to reinstall your latest drivers. It worked for me. I opened Nvidia GeForce Experience, went under the drivers tab at the top, clicked the 3 vertical dots, and reinstall driver.

Did you find a solution?

Currently no, I’ve tried to reinstall the game but it gives me the same result.
I think it might be something to do with the file that comes with it.
if I open the file it opens my browser and asks me what to with the “download”(it’s an exact copy of the file I opened).
it is odd and I thing this problem is tied into that file.(no deleting it doesn’t help)

I asked Nikson in the post of his game, and he answered this:

He also does not find a solution so ours is bad luck.

Since there doesn’t seem to be any consensus fix yet, allow to bump this baby back to life and share…

I couldn’t boot the game at all (same with Reborn) on my new Win10 rig… one DirectX Runtime update later, they both run A1 now.

guys my TJOC reborn worked fine but not the case here:
i got 8gb DD2 RAM
GT 640 2GB
nd CORE 2 QUAD Q6600!!!
PLZ any solution tried everything given above or below

My game also did not work, but when I bought a new monitor, the game worked miraculously. I do not know how it happened. On the computer before the purchase of the monitor there was a similar mistake. My monitor was an old version, and the new monitor is more up-to-date and more productive. Maybe this way will help you too. Thank you for attention.

I know that the thread is dead but if there is someone going through the same problem this can help, I did not understand why it gave me these crashes if my pc is mid-range which is not so bad but still I did not run the game , since I installed it the first time it crashed me and I felt disappointed since I wanted to play it, it turns out that one day by chance I saw the game in a folder and went to see what happened, to my surprise the game worked :slight_smile: imagine what I was happy that I felt, I played for a while and fell asleep, the next day when I turned on the pc I wanted to enter and the crash came out again, I tried everything and I could not play it again until I came to the conclusion that the crash was fixed when the pc restarts, it is strange but there are times when you restart and the game works until you turn it off and turn on the pc and so on

I had the same problem but I found a solution that worked for me. Search up device manager in windows start menu, open it and click on monitors, right click on generic pnp monitor and if it’s disabled, enable it and run the game. I disabled it to play valorant because I had a resolution problem and this was the fix for it, so yeah.

I got it to work for me just by changing the HDMI cable that ran from my monitor to my PC. It’s looking like it’s a monitor connection problem. Maybe try switching out cables or monitors if you keep getting the black error screen of death.

I have the same problem and cannot solve it

same thing happened to me except both computers are windows 10 one is a pc which is fast and the other is a sony laptop also on windows 10 for some reason it works on the laptop but not the pc

For those who still haven’t solved the error, what you have to do is tell the game not to start from the graphics setup and modify its parameters manually.

First go to where you have the game and find the TJoC_SM folder, followed by that, run the TJoC_SM.cfg with notepad and change the following values:

ShowSetup=0
Graphics.Monitor=1

Because of this you have to manually change the resolution and its percentage, although this is not necessary if you meet the requirements of the game in the first place:

Scalability.Resolution=50
Scalability.Shadows=0
Scalability.Textures=0
Scalability.ViewDistance=0
Scalability.PostProcess=0
Scalability.Foliage=0
Scalability.Effects=0
Scalability.AA=0
Graphics.FullscreenMode=0
Graphics.ResolutionX=1280
Graphics.ResolutionY=768

These values are unrelated to the problem of starting and only serve to modify the graphics of the game, change the Scalability.Resolution=50 to 75 or 100 for greater sharpness and the ResolutionX and ResolutionY values according to your monitor.

Changing those values I was able to run it on a Q6600 with an R5 240 with OC, which previously did not run it, I was able to run it without closing problems or anything like that, for now it is the only solution I have for them.

If the file does not appear, just create it in txt document format with the following structure:

ShowSetup=0
Commandline=
Scalability.Resolution=50
Scalability.Shadows=0
Scalability.Textures=0
Scalability.ViewDistance=0
Scalability.PostProcess=0
Scalability.Foliage=0
Scalability.Effects=0
Scalability.AA=0
Graphics.FullscreenMode=0
Graphics.ResolutionX=1280
Graphics.ResolutionY=768
Graphics.VSync=1
Graphics.Monitor=1

This contribution will help give a definitive solution, remember to name it TJOC_SM.cfg and place it in the TJoC_SM folder.
