SoF/MGR/SW2 Gore System?

I am curious of how games like the Solider of Fortune 1 and 2, Metal Gear Rising, and Shadow Warrior 2 achieved their gore system, and if similar systems could be possible in Unreal Engine 4. If so, how would one go about implementing it?
