CameraRig Rail updating camera position in details panel but not in sequencer

Hi there,

When I add a camera rig rail (with attached camera as child) to a sequence and add a “current position on rail” track - adjusting this value in the sequencer presents no updated movement or changes to camera’s position in the editor. However, when I select the camera rig rail in the editor and tweak the same value in the Details panel, it updates the camera as you would expect.

The result seems to be that although I can see desired camera behaviour when tweaking “Current Position on rail” position on rail value in details, I cannot animate a camera on a rail within sequencer. Adding keyframes either from the track itself in sequencer or via the details panel has no effect on the camera despite the value visibly changing.

Adding other tracks to the camera rig rail, such as transform, adjustments made within the sequence behave as you would expect and position is updated when value change. But “current position on rail” has no effect on camera.

Any indication on how I’m messing this up would be hugely appreciated…

thanks,
-Alan

Here’s my setup that works - which was simply created by holding down alt-shift and then dragging the camera rig rail asset into the viewport. It creates a spawnable camera rig rail, spawnable camera, attaches the camera to the camera rig rail, and sets two keyframes for the Current Position on Rail so that the camera travels from one end of the rig to the other.

Hi Max,

That’s a neat trick! Thanks for sharing.

Disappointingly, this produces the exact same issue for me in my project. I’m wondering if there’s a project settings that might inhibit the current position on rail from updating when edited inside of a sequence track? I can’t see anything obvious in the level sequence section of the editor.

top image below - no effect on camera position
bottom image below - camera updates along rig
Result: keyframes added to the timeline do not update the camera position

I would say that that is very possible!

Thank you so much!

One last niggle I wonder if you might be able to help with - any idea why sometimes the rail and camera stop showing in editor completely? quitting the editor and starting it again seems to fix it fine, but a bit of a tedious hiccup!

RE: “Realtime” viewport setting - in 4.17, it’s toggled on automatically when you enter Sequencer and there’s a preference to enable/disable that behavior. It’s called “Activate Realtime Viewports”.

RE: rail and camera visibility - maybe “Game” gets toggled periodically?

Is it possible that you don’t have “Realtime” checked on in the viewport settings?
