Reduce polygon on a mesh?

Hi epic community!

I want to know what is the best way to reduce polycount on my really high poly mesh. I testing with zbrush but i don’t know why when I reimport the edited mesh my “materials elements” which is before the editing was at 5 count is now in a single spot…

I look on google and I find a program named Mantis LOD Editor - Standalone edition… but I won’t pay for this if this can’t help my problem…

I have a 1 millions poly mesh that I need to reduce to something like 40000-60000 Poly but I don’t know the best way to do this.

Can you help me with this? I actually have a lot of program to help me for the detail of my mesh like Quixel Suite, Photoshop, but i really need a good tool for reduce my mesh poly :frowning: !

That’s actually a pretty good idea! I will give it a try thank you for your answer Kibble!

I download Blender and this tool do the job pretty fast! I will do the Kibblesticks technique for my futur models but for only a bush your solution was perfect thanks!

I’d recommend doing it this way:

  1. Take your highres mesh into a 3D application like Maya or ZBrush.

  2. Take a screenshot/render of the mesh from different sides, making sure your camera resolution is a power of 2 (256, 512, 1024, etc…). These are the best resolutions for textures. Also make sure you’re rendering an alpha channel.

  3. Apply the screenshot/renders as textures to planes and basic low poly shapes.

  4. Angle the planes so they work together.

  5. You should now have some decent looking foliage with a low poly mesh.

  6. You can add detail/shaping by adding extra planes with more leaf/branch textures applied.

This is just a really basic explanation. You can see some of the kinds of results you can get here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/exdGD

For more detailed info Google “Game Art Foliage Techniques”, there’s lots of info out there. Good luck!

Hi,

In addition to what Kibblesticks suggested, you can also try Blender and there are many tools to reduce the count. There are many automated tolls for reduction and there are also way to do this manually as well.

Hope this helps

Yes i really need to test blender. This look like a pretty nice tool and also this is free so why not ! Thanks !

Glad this works for you.
