Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Lighting and shadows

I'm almost finish with lighting in this level I've done, the colors and tones came out as I wanted. But my number one concern is why isn't there shadows on my trees and why are the leaves blacked out? Am I missing something? Is there a setting in the Post Processing I missed? alt text

A quick guess would be that your trees lightmaps aren't working properly. First thing to double check is that your trees have a lightmap. Open the Tree asset in the static mesh editor and click the UV's button in the top toolbar, then click the "UV Channel" pull down to the right of it. Ensure that you have 2 UV channels. If you don't, you'll have to create one.

Are you getting an "overlapping UV's warning" on your tree mesh after you complete your lighting build? My guess is that this applies to the leaves as well. I've seen it happen to smaller geometries, where they lightmap UV's are too small along with the specified lightmap resolution.

When I click on the UV channel, it has 7. But I set it to the first one by changing the Lightmap Coordinate index to 1. Also, yes I do get a OverLapping UV warning. Question what would a good size lightmap resolution for those trees? I set them to 64

Ok, if you have 7 UV Maps that leads me to think that your leafs are in a separate map and aren't getting light information baked to them.

My suggestion would be to open up your asset in blender, delete all the UV Maps and create 2 new ones. Then unwrap your mesh using the SmartUV Project tool and create 2 identical UV Maps. Export that to FBX and reimport it into UE4, set your Lightmap to UV map 1 again, then try to bake.

I'm not sure if UE4 would know what to do with 7 UV Maps. In my experience I use 2. Channel 0 for all of my textures and Channel 1 for lightmaps.

Edit:. Bake = Build Lighting

Hello SoraJr

Can you show us your "tree and leaf" material for we can check if something missing or wrong? I dont think its because of post effects.
