Heightmap is causing terrain to be pointy/shrp

That is common issue as that webpage will provide you with values that are in steps like manner. What you can do is load heightmap in some graphic editor like Photoshop or dedicated DEM editing software and apply smoothing to it and reexport it with higher resolution (bit depth). The other option would be blur existing terrain in UE using it’s terrain editing brushes. Set large brush and just smooth it out manually.

im importing heightmaps from terrainparty.com. the terrain turns out to be extremely pointy and sharp, unlike the real landscape, im thinking it has something to do with LOD’S but not too sure on how to change it. please help!

interesting… ill have to try to mess with it in photoshop. thanks a bunch!

okay, so, it didnt help the situation, ( but i didnt know you could do that to even out the terrain so thats pretty awesome )
i think it has something to do with the LOD distance factor. when i set it to 10.0 (the highest) it definitely takes all the unnecessary sharp points out and reverts it to the real ground, BUT, as i move closer to the landscape, it begins to grow… so weird.
