Is it better to make maps as models (using Maya, Blender or whatever) or in UE using brushes etc.?

I never had to make big, complex maps before, but now I have to and I’m wondering, what’s better - maps as 3D models or maps built in UE?

You should consider using UE4’s built in tools as a quick way to map out your level with limited details. Use Maya type programs and then import those assets into UE4. Perhaps others will weigh in, but at this time UE4 doesn’t come close to the abilities of real apps like Maya / Houdini / 3dsMax…
