Windows 10 Pro download 5kbps -18kbps

Super strange issue but here goes:

I have Epic Games Launcher installed both on a MacbookPro and my workstation PC. The macbookpro, using the same wifi connection as my workstation, downloaded the UE4.6.1 via the launcher @ 5mbps->15mbps. I have a 200mbps connection.

The windows 10 pro workstation however, is receiving data @ only 5kbps - 18kbps. Im sure there is some specific setting which is causing this on the workstation.

Things I’ve tried but have failed to remedy the issue, each time i executed the EpicLauncher, i have done so “As Administrator” as well in order to provide it with elevated permissions:

  • Disabling inbound fire wall @ the workstation
  • Disabling inbound firewall @ the router (the macbookpro experience proofs this out already, but i did it just as part of the process anyway)
  • Disabling “real time protection” in Windows Defender
  • Disabling any other background process that is or may be utilizing a network connection.
  • Ookla Speed Test for both the macbook and the PC register ~ 178mbps down and 35mbps up via their browser tester.

the PC is no more shielded from the WAN than the macbookpro is - both are simply connecting to the same residential 200mbps broadband connection via wifi.

Im convinced there is some setting in Windows 10 pro I am not familiar with that is causing this issue. Any suggestions are welcome, thank you in advance.

Ok determined this was caused by a few things:

Windows 10 creator edition was recently forced its update on my workstation (about 4-5weeks ago). This lead to a number of older runtimes i needed to support various other project’s maintenance to not work. I rolled Windows 10 creator back to something like 1607 or which ever was the latest update prior to “creator”

Doing this some how orphaned by wireless card’s config and drivers in a win 10 creators state. After wiping the registry and file system of those files/configs and resetting both (via drivers update and then some card specific configs i need to run).

Back up to a 8mbps download on the workstation. Its odd that other patch engines (blizzard’s or Steam for example) didnt suffer the severe throttling the Epic Launcher experienced but hey - no biggie, problem resolved.
