[UE4 - Ver 4.16.2] Can't close UE4 Editor after importing model or Reimporting model

Seeing this on macOS 10.12.6 too once you try and quit this is spammed into the log

[2017.07.03-04.39.05:609][199]Cmd: CLOSE_SLATE_MAINFRAME

my 4.16.2 got the same issue, I think this is a bug.

I would love Epic to say something about this bug, so that we all can calm down and expect a fix when possible.

Hey All,

I was able to confirm what you are reporting, and have gone ahead and entered a bug report for the issue. You can track the report following the link below on our public tracker.

UE-46840

Once the issue has been addressed by our engineers the ticket will be updated and reflected in the public tracker. Let me know if you have further questions or need additional assistance.

Cheers,

Thank you very much for all the support Andrew, you are the hero!
In the ticket you cited: “This process of importing is not an incredibly common workflow that I know of, but it still seems to be used enough to affect a number a users.”
Could you explain the common workflow of importing models, or the way all of the Epic Studio does it? It seems more convenient to have the engine automatically recognize when something new is imported or re-imported , or am I missing something? Can you set a custom folder path for items that will be imported to the Content folder?

Thank you very much,

Elias Wick

Hey Andrew: I see that the ticket has been marked with “Cannot Reproduce”. Since you were able to confirm the issue, can you test and see if the problem persists in 4.16.3 or 4.17.0? It would help us all to look forward to the future update.

Hi Elias.

I’ll interject real quick to say that this has been confirmed to no longer occur in the upcoming 4.17 release. We are however evaluating whether we can identify what the specific fix was, and if so, whether we could include it in a possible 4.16.3 hotfix. Stay tuned.

Cheers

Just experienced this issue this evening, after exporting a speedtree model in UE 4.16.2, I had to close the editor using task manager, even alt+f4 failed. Not such a big problem for me right now, but it could be a problem in the future.

Have a nice evening,

We intend to release a 4.16.3 hotfix soon which will include a fix for this.

Cheers

Greetings,

I import my models directly from 3Ds Max into my Content folder. When doing so in the latest update 4.16.2, I can’t close the Editor, and the save bar is not shown any more when I save. The same thing applies for when I reimport my models. Here is a video (With Voice) to demonstrate my issue: [Unreal Engine 4 - Ver 4.16.2 Issue] - Import model, Can't close Editor - YouTube

What I have done to try and solve this on my own:

  • Reinstall Unreal Engine 4.16.2
  • Reinstall Epic Game Launcher (removed every trace of Epic, and Unreal from my harddrive (Except for in the registry))
  • Tried using another older version. 4.15.3. I could close the Editor when using an older version.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I would bow down before you and kiss your feet if you can tell me if you have a similar issue. Thanks!

I may be having the same issue. Can’t double-check until tomorrow, but I couldn’t close the editor after I imported an .fbx via right-clicking in the Content Browser. This is on 4.16.2. I imported several .fbx models yesterday in 4.16.1 without issue, but I updated to 4.16.2 this morning and that was the only time I tried importing a model since.

I couldn’t close through clicking the X, nor through selecting Quit from the File(?) drop-down menu. I also couldn’t open another Recent Project. Trying any of these actions just resulted in nothing happening, as far as I could tell. I had to End Task in Windows Task Manager. Haven’t had a chance to check again, but I will tomorrow.

EDIT: I can’t seem to replicate the issue today. I was able to import (and re-import) a new .fbx in 4.16.2, then I was able to save and then Quit without a problem. I did all that three times today, but maybe I’m just getting lucky, or there is some other specific thing I haven’t done today which causes the issue to present itself.

Is the MacOS version your using, the latest version?

I am having this same issue on the Windows version.

The only way to close the editor is to Ctrl+Alt+Del.

It only seemed to start in 4.16.2 for me.

Yup latest MacOS 10.12.6 in fact. Happening for me on two different iMacs (2012 and 2016) but with same OS

Windows 10 Unreal Engine version 4.16.2, same issue
