Why does the FPS drop so much when I add trees?

Depending on your graphics card the scene may simply be too heavy. Those open world demo trees are quite beefy.

Hello Tommow

Like zxank say, the scene can be very heavy for your graphic card, this can be the first problem. The second problem is if you are you sing dynamic(movable) light, you tell the engine create every shadows dynamicly, so it calculates it every for every frame and it takes time to get enough frames for smooth playing. If you still wanting dynamic lighting, maybe you should try to adjust shadow distance. Material setups for landscape and trees also important, try to optimize them too. Last thing is total triCount on your scene.Hope this helps. Thank you. For shadow distance →

Hi all,

I am using the trees / foliage from the open world demo that Epic provide.

I have used the foliage editor to paint down the trees and I am using movable lights as the static and stationary lights do not produce the shadows correctly.

My FPS is below 10 when I look at the trees… unplayable :frowning:

How can I fix this issue?

Video attached, only running an average of 9 - 15 FPS.
