Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog

4.17 Preview: crash on project load

Hello RicarDog,

I was unable to reproduce your issue on our end. I have a couple of questions about your issue to help narrow down what you are experiencing.

  1. Does your project load if you move the startup map out of your project folder?

  2. Does this happen with other projects you have upgraded from 4.16 to 4.17?

Hi Thomas,

  1. No, the same crash happens without the map. It crashes right after showing the editor main window.

  2. This is the only 4.16 project that I have. However, creating new empty projects in 4.17 works fine.

Hello,

I'm also getting this problem, with 4.17 preview 2 on windows, but only in a packaged build. The editor runs and packages the game with no errors.

I was able to reproduce your issue with the files you provided and logged a report for it here

You can track the report's status as the issue is reviewed by our development staff. Please be aware that this issue may not be prioritized or fixed soon.

For your specific project, there was a workaround to open it that I found, to do this in 4.16 simply change any part of BattleHUD and then save it. This allowed me to upgrade the project provided to 4.17. The workaround is to identify the Widget responsible and then modifying it and then upgrading the project to 4.17.

Greetings, I just want to point out that this issue is not easily resolvable in our project.

"making any change to the BP that is causing the crash resolves the issue (Such as using refresh all nodes, adding a new component, or changing any value)."

This does not seem to apply to all instances of this issue, where the only solution is to create a brand new widget BP and copy/paste everything from the old one, then deleting the old completely. With that old widget (for example), it will crash the game when the widget hit a certain node, (in this instance a "Play Animation" node.) The crash resulting from the old widget would also not return any useful crash stack other than "fatal error!", and close the game.
