Maya to UE4 animation problems

Hi everyone, So I have a few issues with my character that I haven’t been able to figure out. My character is a hockey player that’s holding a stick. Issue one is with the animations once imported into UE4 looking messed up but perfectly fine in Maya.

Issue number two is with my player’s stick which is constrained to one arm, and driving the movement of another arm. The stick disappears once the mesh is imported into UE4. The stick is a separate piece of geometry with a bone setup. I combined the Player Mesh and the Stick mesh in Maya before exporting.

Animations were baked down to the joints.

What is the UE4 workflow for characters that interact with props such as a baseball bat, hockey stick or a sword?
