I cant import fbx files

When I try to import my fbx files it says “Can’t detect import type. No mesh is found or animation track.”

i was having a similar issue. i don’t know for sure yet, but try exporting with the latest fbx 2016 from either maya or max. i use maya 2016 and using the latest fbx 2016 version seems to fix it for now. i haven’t used it enough to make sure it’s stable, but so far so good.

Please can someone answer this. I am having the same problem. I have imported numerous FBX files without problems, but one particular mesh will not import and I get this same warning.

I fixed that issue like this : try to select both skeleton AND the Mesh (even if you dont need it) , then export selected.

You need to change FBX export to 2016 in maya.

I was having this issue importing to UE4 as well but I was exporting from Blender. The issue was that I was in isolation mode. I believe I had created a secondary object while in that mode and even though I had the correct object selected, I think isolation mode was technically selecting the original mesh or causing some error because of it. Once I removed myself from iso mode and selected the objected I wanted and exported/imported, it worked.

Unreal engine only works will with FBX 2016, also when exporting in maya choose ‘Game Exporter’ Instead of export selection.

Hey! I had the same problem with Blender to UE4 workflow. What I had to do is to make sure that I had the action selected on the Action Editor, and when I exported, unchecked the “NLA strips” on the Bake Animation menu

I hade a similar issue when exporting from blender into unreal engine 5. If you are using blender make sure the actual object is selected when exporting and change the file path from auto to copy.

Selecting the objects in blender before exporting works for me. It doesn’t make any sense tho :frowning: . Thanks!
