Variable details panel

Disclaimer: I have novice programming skills, in fact I’m not a programmer, I’m a designer. So please excuse my question if it seems elementary; my therapist (if I had one) might say this is a place free of judgement. Anyway…

When you’re in the details panel setting up the new variable you just made of X type. Why isn’t there an option in the details panel to populate X variable with expressions you want? In like say utilizing the same system of clicking the arrow to use what is currently selected in the content browser? Now I understand you can make the variable editable, then populate your fields from the defaults panels, but that exposes the variable to editing from within the editor main view also. What if I don’t want to variable editable, but I want an easy & quick method of creating my variable without having this solely achieved from within the eventgraph as a node layout.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback. There is an upcoming change to Blueprints that will expose the default property in the details of your selected variable while in the EventGraph. We wanted to have the default field exposed before compiling, but it created several complexities with the code, so you must still compile before entering the default information. There are more improvements to this system still under development, but if there is anything else you would like to see, please let us know.

Thank you,

Alexander

Thanks Alexander, I’d love to see this as well.
