Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Is there an Unreal Engine 4 trial?

I'm a college student who just finished learning C/C++. I don't think paying 15$ would be worth it if I just want to fool around with the engine. Is there anyway I can get a demo or trial version of this?

No there is no trial or demo. You can however pay $19 once then cancel your subscription and continue to use the same version, then repay if you want to receive updates in the future.

That sounds nice. So would you recommend this engine if I want to make a simple RTS game with my basic C++ knowledge?

This is possibly the best deal for any engine industry wide. Not only do you get a great engine, you get all the source code for $19 dollars. No other engine has that. None. You also get documentation, a roadmap and lots of tutorial videos!

I agree with all that TommyBear said, and just wanted to say that there is even a strategy game sample that is made by Epic Games that you can download for free, open and look at exactly how they made it. Might be useful for learning.

Ehamloptiran is describing the UE4 subscription. UDK has a different subscription model.

I feel guilty even searching to see if there was a "trial" or "demo". The price, and more importantly, licensing terms, are beyond generous. Not to mention the quality of the product is second to none. I'll be signing up this week.
