Accessing mesh material from character blueprint problems

When trying to make a blueprint test to change the material color parameter from the material instance, im unable to get the base material to make the instance from, Im using the sample ShooterGame assets(halo-like character) and i want to get the material of the skeletal mesh from the character blueprint so i can set appropiate colors, but i got this

So im unable to get the material and make a instance to change colors, if i just create a material variable and use that it works fine, but getting the material from the mesh is impossible.
