Hello My friends, i’m having a problem with the Animation and Rigging Toolkit for Maya. It seems that it isn’t loading the userSetup.py
Here’s what the output window shows:
Failed to execute userSetup.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
UnicodeEncodeError: ‘ascii’ codec can’t encode character u’\xe9’ in position 12: ordinal not in range(128)
I would be really grateful if you can help me with this. Thanks

The problem is, you have a non-english character in your username. (or more precisely the scripts folder of maya)
Like é,á,ú,ű,ó,ü,ö or any other. You should create a different windows user with only the 26 english characters in name.
Maybe you could also re-route the scripts folder for maya, but I dont know maya, and we just fixed this for my friend as well by simply creating a new windows-user.
(you can transfer any data from your old account by copyying the appdata folder to your new accout)
I know, that this is a very ugly workaround, but at least it can be done in 5 minutes.
