4.17.1 lighting bug with instanced static meshes

Hi, I recently updated to version 4.17.1 from 16.3 and I have this problem when building lighting for mesh instances that are used within a blueprint. Here is a very simple example of a few towels stacked as instanced meshes using a blueprint. This is after lighting has been build (medium). It looks good after I build the level but when I close and reopen the editor it looks like this. I tried it twice. It affects all blueprints that uses static mesh instances.

I’m using a lighting scenario. The level is “always loaded” and the other lighting level is not loaded at all. It worked fine in 4.16.3. I haven’t touched it at all.

I have converted the project in place. (I have a backup copy)

Sorry this might be a bit confusing. So here is some more information.

The stack of towels is a blueprint which just contains the towels and a very simple script to replace the material.

In 4.16.3 the lighting looks built just like it should.

In 4.17 it looks like it uses the wrong light map for the towels, see above post and images.

I am using a lighting scenario but I removed the 2nd lighting level for now. So it is a lighting scenario with just one lighting level. This works in 4.16.3. Here is my level browser.

i am having the same problem right now but it’s on my landscape instanced foliage. After building the light everything looks like what they should, but after saving, closing and reopen the map, foliage will have very serious artifacts. A screenshot is attached. This project was converted from 4.16 to 4.17, i’ve not seen such problem and everything was working just fine in 4.16

I was using lighting scenario but also tested without it, none of the approaches seems work. As long as I save and reopen the map, i’ll get those badly shadowed artifacts

Has anyone made any progress on this front? I’m having issues after upgrading - building lighting in the editor works fine, and I can save and reopen my levels without issue. When I launch the game however (PIE), the lightmap issues show themselves.

It seems to be fixed in 4.18.0. Therefor I’ll mark this as resolved. Thanks
