Apex Cloth not working 4.17

I’m struggling to get the Apex cloth to work. I’ve made sure the bone affect limit is 4 or less and the simulation works perfectly in 3DS Max 2018. Now when I export it and import it into UE4 4.17 the mesh either flickers through the entire scene or everything warps into infinity.

How do I get this to work? I’ve tried the NvCloth but it does not have the edit-ability I need like in 3DS Max.

I can’t answer to your questions but maybe it could help. Have you tried to use the new clothing tool now fully integrated in the UE4 Editor. It’s work very well with me and you could check the documentation on it here :

Hope someone can solve your problem with Apex Cloth.

Sorry but I don’t know, I never used Apex Cloth with Unreal Engine and I only use the Cloth Tool since it’s available in UE4.

I’ve tried it, but there are some limitations about what I can do. I’ve tried to import it the old way and the way with the new Cloth system and it still vanishes into infinity or it just freaks out over the entire screen.
Is there any other methods in previous versions that works guaranteed?

I am not sure whether this helps, but I can share some experience I made with Apex cloth (working with 4.15 batch then):

First, I once had this problem as well and I never really understood how this happened. that was early at the stage of learning Apex Cloth and I was not fully aware of the workflow. I never figured out why it happened and basically tried from scratch again (binding bones, painting max limits and so on)

Second, I noticed that I would get import errors, when I exported an apex file where my geometry was configured as you can see in the screenshot. I tried to do a curtain effect including the rings where the curtain is attached. UE would display an error text that it could not load the Apex file, so in the end and after quite some time of looking for the error I solved it, by changing the geometry that the rings had a small gap, so that there was not penetrating geometry left.

I had the same issue with Maya 2017 and this fixed it for me: In the export settings make sure “output unit” is set to centimeter not millimeter.

I’ll see if this works. Just have to get Maya installed.
I’m using max and my unit setup is correct and outputs to cm.
In the meantime I’ve used the ClothPaint in UE4 as a temporary solution.
I’ll accept this as the answer for now.
Thanks.
