Dragging sometimes zooms blueprints (4.3)

Branch: Binary

Build version: 4.3.0-2215663

System Specs:

Description:

After pulling out a blueprint pin and creating a new node, context/right clicking and dragging causes blueprint graph to both move and zoom, making for a weird experience. Here’s a video of issue: - YouTube

This appears to have started with 4.3 release.

Let me know if you need more details!

That seems like it’s definitely related to issue I’m seeing. I mainly use a mouse with blueprints, and what has started happening is that when I right-click to drag, it also alters zoom level (in and out of top-left corner, like you described). I tried with several mice just in case it was a peripheral issue but it’s consistent across devices.

Hey piinecone,

I’m think I’m seeing same behavior, but let me just check and make sure:

When I use a mouse, rolling mouse wheel zooms in and out, and dragging with RMB moves graph around.

When using trackpad, dragging with two fingers moves graph around (where it used to zoom in and out), and click-dragging with two fingers zooms in and out of top-left corner (where it used to move graph around).

Is that what you’re seeing? It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with new node being created, but simply something being switched on trackpad. I’m going to check with developers real quick and see if this is something intentional, but I don’t think so. Thanks for your report!

Hm, when I use a mouse I don’t get issue. I’ll keep messing around with it, but I’m going to create a bug report in our database and let developers know about what we’ve both seen. Just to confirm: are you always seeing this when you use a mouse, or just sometimes? And does it always behave this way if you use trackpad? Thanks!

It only happens occasionally with mouse for me (right clicking works for dragging most of time, then sometimes it freaks out, usually after creating a new node). It happens every single time with trackpad for me, just as you described. I assume (possibly mistakenly) that fixing trackpad issue will resolve mouse variant.

I believe so. I’ll enter that bug report shortly. Thanks again!

Hey piinecone,

I checked with developers, and new controls on trackpad are intentional. I still haven’t been able to reproduce behavior with a mouse, however, unless I unintentionally have my thumb on trackpad. Next time it happens, can you check where your left hand is and see if something is touching trackpad while you’re using mouse? That would override mouse input and switch how RMB + drag functions.

Yo. Thanks for checking in with them. It’s been happening to me a bunch, and my thumb hasn’t been on trackpad during those times. I think experience I’m having is probably unintentional because it doesn’t happen 100% of time. Basically, at a random moment, right click + drag will remap to what scroll wheel typically does. It won’t revert to panning until I cmd+tab or primary click around a bit, seemingly reseting mouse control mapping.

I’ll try to come up with a more repeatable case and make a video where I narrate what’s going on. Am I only person reporting this? It could just be me, or my project.

Hey , here’s a screencast of me encountering bug: https://www…com/watch?v=BCRRhtEu0xQ&feature=youtu.be

Apparently I live underwater.

Hey , any luck with this? It’s extremely hard to work in blueprints right now, I can’t reliably drag graph around without things zooming in and out like crazy. Do you know if there’s a workaround, or way to turn that new feature off?

Or is there another way of dragging with mouse, like a key I can hold on keyboard or something? Thanks!

We still haven’t been able to reproduce issue. I’m guessing it’s not a hardware issue if you’re not seeing any unusual cursor behavior in other software, but would you mind checking a couple of things for me?

First, can you see if this happens with a different mouse? If you hold both left and right mouse buttons and drag in a sub-editor, it will zoom in and out; it’s not likely, but I’d like to rule out possibility that it’s just your left mouse button registering at same time as right.

Second, see if you can test if this issue happens in any other software, such as your modeling program or anything else with distinctly different right and left mouse button functionality.

Otherwise, if you notice anything else that might help narrow down cause within UE4, please let us know. We can’t really do anything until we’re able to reproduce issue reliably. Thanks!

I have two different logitech mice (one usb, one bluetooth), and issue happens with both of them somewhat randomly (although it seems to happen after adding a new node in a graph editor). I’ll verify today if it’s one specific project or all 4.3 projects.

I don’t have this problem in Maya or any other software.

I’ll attempt to come up with a reproducible case today and upload it!

Hey , I’ve just started using my left hand on touchpad for panning and my mouse hand for wiring, so it’s all good. If you guys can’t reproduce it then it’s not worth trying to track it down, it’s probably something weird I’m subtly doing or something odd with my system and/or a specific project.

Thanks for update, piinecone. We still haven’t seen this issue on our end, but I appreciate you trying to track it down for us. If you see anything that helps narrow down cause at all, please let us know and we’ll reopen this. Thanks!
