Disable Scalability?

Hello!

I have a problem with 4.3.

Looks like it tries to run Engine Benchmark on editor startup, but than crashes driver, launcher and editor.

Can I disable this feature to start editor without benchmark? I can’t find any command for it in ini’s.

Thanks!

Hi redbox -

The engine should not be trying to benchmark anything when it opens. Could you upload ascreenshot of what you are seeing when it crashes.

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Hi Eric!

When I start editor, system says:“driver not responding”. Than Launcher crashes, and I can see editor’s splash screen with words: “Running Engine Benchmark”, but it looks stuck.

I clean some temp folders like “Program Data/Epic”, few from “App Data”, and this bug is not reproduced again.

Sorry for bothering you. :\

I have the same problem. Laptop with Win7 (64-bit), 8GB RAM and NVidia GeForce GT 555M (4GB) (latest Driver) here.

It appears a Crash Reporter-Window, but in it there’s only:
“You do not have any debugging symbols required to display the callstack for this crash.”

UE 4.2.1 was working fine, though.

No one any idea why this happens?

Hey thatsmauri -

Are you experiencing the same error that redbox was and having a benchmark call come up? If so could you please upload a screenshot of the exact error and your crash reporter box with that error in it? If you are experiencing a crash but it is different than the one described by redbox can you please start a new question for clarity’s sake.

Also, please be sure to review our suggestions for how to report a bug, and feel free to edit your post if you have additional information to provide.

Hi Eric,

Yeah, I have the same problem as redbox :frowning:

I’m launching the Unreal Engine via the Launcher. The Editor splash screen shows up, saying “Running Engine Benchmark” (pic1), but nothing happens - it looks indeed stuck. Instead my screen goes black for a split second, tray notify comes up and tells me “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered - Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 337.88 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.” (pic2). Also, the Launcher crashes/“stopped working”.

Here’s the callstack from the Crash Reporter (pic3):

Hey thatsmauri -

First, you should try updating their drivers.

If that doesn’t work and you can ever get into the editor then they need to disable “Monitor Editor Performance” under General->Miscellaneous:

If you can’t get into the editor then the workaround is to go into your Saved\Config\EditorUserSettings.ini and add the following lines and save the file.

[/Script/UnrealEd.EditorUserSettings]
bMonitorEditorPerformance=false

Note the [/Script/UnrealEd.EditorUserSettings] line may already exist.

Also could you upload your DXDIAG for our testing to find a more permanent solution.

Can’t believe it worked with that command! Big thanks, Eric  upvoted

Still need the DXDIAG?

Yes, we want to test this for looking at more long term solutions.

Thank You

Okay, I’ve added the DXDIAG as an attachment. Hope that helps.

Side note: Some words are in german, i.e ‘Lautsprecher’ means ‘Speaker’, ‘Maus’ means ‘Mouse’.

I am also experiencing this issue with the engine crashing during “benchmarking” for 4.3. System is a Win 7 x64, Asus RoG G73sw-bst6 (i7, Geforce GTX 460m, 8 gb ram). HDD has been swapped with an OCZ agility 4 SSD (256 gb). I am using the latest video drivers (337.88 whql).

I’ve already tried editing the editor user settings ini per the mentioning above. I’m primarily a programmer and could benefit from the new changes to the blueprint engine. System upgrade is not an option at this time. Please help.

Hey Xeroize494 -

We are working toward a better solution and more permanent but current the only work around is the Engine User Setings .ini change.

Thank You

I’m having the same problem and I can’t find the saved folder you’re talking about ;(

Hi Eric,

thanks for the quick reply. Sorry it’s my first time using ue4. I’m inside Unreal Engine instillation folder and I only see 4.3 , DirectXredist and Launcher.

Hey Valkon -

It is the Config Directory under your Unreal Projects[Saved Project Name].

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Look in [User Name]\My Documents\Unreal Projects[Saved Project Name]\Config.

Unreal Projects folder doesn’t exist. I was never successful in running the editor. I think that’s why I’m not able to find that folder. I don’t know what to do. I bought the engine a couple of hours ago and just finished installing.

I made the folders myself and it worked!

Eric,

Per my above post, I’ve already made those changes and still experience the crash.
