Why are imported models appearing black after the lighting build?

Certain of the models I’ve imported show up black after applying a material and building the lighting. I do have separate UV channels for the lightmaps with no overlapping UVs and the normals are all facing the proper direction. Additionally, the models appear fine in the prebuilt example levels, so I’m assuming that there is something about my environment that is causing them to appear black. The linked thread contains screenshots.

Does anyone know what I may be doing improperly?

Hi,

I see has been very helpful on the forums with you going back and forth.

It doesn’t appear to be anything with the way your model is setup and your UVs look good with no overlaps.

Can you try putting a texture on your model that is included with the starter content or making a simple material that only has base color of white?

If the model appears fine after that we’ve got to see how you’ve got your material setup (preferably a screenshot) to see if that’s causing the issue.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the response,

I placed the “M_Metal_Steel” material from the starter content on both the railing and floor grates in the environment, and they still appear quite dark after building the lighting.

As a test I increased the attenuation radii of the point lights from 520 to 1000, and the railing and grates certainly display with a more metallic look before the lighting build, but after I build the lighting the materials look about the same as before.

Is it possible for you to upload your mesh somewhere so that we can take a look at it? I think this will be the fastest way to help you

The problem is now solved:

We just re-created the 2nd uv channel of the mesh + added the M_Metal_Steel material.

Thanks for linking the two! Thanks for all your help with this user as well. It is more than appreciated for sure!
