Recorded sequence crash/freeze editor

I use HTC with motion controllers and I would to record vr scene by sequencer (4.17.2). I have two issues :

1 - When I play or just open recorded sequence, editor freeze or crash totally.

2 - Sometimes, I manage to record my motion controllers and sometimes they are missing without reasons.

What I can do for fix that ? Somebody have same issues ?

I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. Could you provide screen shots of any settings/blueprints that may be involved with this issue?

2> Steps to reproduce this issue :

  1. Create new project with Virtual Reality blueprint
  2. Open level “MotionControllerMap” (or default level and add VRPawn)
  3. Open Sequence Recorder, clic on Add and select VRPawn in “Actor to Record”
  4. Clic on “Record” button then clic on Play VR preview
  5. Play few seconds with headset and motion controllers then press echap for stop play and stop recording
  6. Open the new Recorded Sequence in Sequencer
  7. From now, editor freeze few minutes to each attemps to work with Sequencer
  8. In Misc, clic on camera icon for lock VRpawn to selected viewport but motions controllers (hands meshes) are missing

I can confirm from my end, that sequencer does not seem to record well with VR. Can someone from Epic Games confirm that this is supposed to work/not work with VR? And if not, if it’s gonna be in the pipeline to get implemented sometime along the way?

Clearly there are alot of usecases for using the sequencer with VR. And if there are workarounds that anybody know of, i would be very interrested in knowing.

After running through the test case provided, I was unable to reproduce the freeze/crash on our end. Could you provide your dxdiag? Could you also provide an example project that experiences this freeze/crash so that I could take a closer look?

In this project, you have a Recorded sequence that I have recorded with my motion controllers and the headset Htc . When we open it on sequencer and we work on it, after a certain time editor freezing. By the way, the motions controllers are missing.

I have run a few tests on my end with the project provided. The editor does not freeze up. I tried following the instructions in the video to recreate the issue from scratch (in a clean project as well as the one provided) and could not reproduce the freeze that you are seeing. Could you provide your dxdiag?

Do you managed to recorde motion controllers too ? Hand meshes are missing for me.

As you can see, item are recorded but motion controllers are missing into sequencer. However, hands animations are presents in folder Cinematics/Animations.
I made the same test into 4.15 and it works, motions controllers are visibles into sequencer.

To be precise, it’s not quite “freeze” but big “lag”. At this time, editor lagging when I clic on VRpawn copy recorded : 2017 11 07 21 52 46 1 - YouTube

How can I fix those issues ? Please can you tell me if is it really possible to record sucessfully in 4.17 with and motion controllers?
I have to realise my project entierly into unreal engine and now I’m stuck to finish it and I have short deadline. Thank you.

After running several tests I have not been able to reproduce the freeze mentioned in this post. Are you still having this issue in the latest release of the engine (4.18.2)?

Yes, I have made some tests with the latest release 4.18.2 (and 4.19 too) same issues, lags and objects missing.

Can you tell me if you have manage to record motion controllers in your previous tests ?

As you can see in Sequencer, a lot of objects are missing.

I was do exactly the sames steps into 4.15.3 and everyting works well :

Why ? How is it possible ?

When you preview your sequencer recording are you doing so at design time? If so, the reason you may not being seeing the controllers is because they are spawned in at runtime. I hope this information helps.
