[Question / Request] Alpha Composite substitute?

Hello,

is there a way to accomplish something similar to Alpha Composite with the new material system? I want to recreate this effect:
http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/806295-Help-Fake-Transparency-for-Cloak-Mode?p=28593165&viewfull=1#post28593165

It relies on Alpha Composite being rendered with correct Z-Ordering but still allowing the use of Scene Color when having an opacity of 1. However none of the new transparency modes are able to do that.

Is there a possibility to replicate this effect with the new rendering system?

greetings,
Pascal

Hello,

We’re working toward responding as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Sean

Sorry, that’s not something UE4 supports at this time. You have access to scene color in translucent materials but you will have the usual translucency sorting issues.

Is there any plans on re-adding the additional depth pass that was done for translucent objects in UE3 (“Lit Translucency Depth Pass” as it is called in UE3) Without this I can basically not render our game as it relies heavily upon this depth check.

No plans to add that back at this time, but I’ll add it to our feature request list!

By the way Nick,

good luck with your presentation at the GDC !
