Creating a fresh third person blueprint project in both 4.17 and 4.18, then using the stat fps command on the editor window, I have 120 frames per second in 4.17, but only 15 in 4.18 with frequent dips and freezes. While working in 4.18 performance will get worse and worse until the editor completely freezes.
Here is the interesting part; If I open a 4.17 project and leave it open , I can open a 4.18 project and not experience the performance issues. However, if the 4.18 project is already open, opening a 4.17 project does not have any effect.
In the dxdiag I noticed that you are using the latest driver by NVIDIA, the 388.31 driver is not on the supported drivers list for the Unreal Engine. Currently the supported driver for the 900 series of NVIDIA GPUs is the 388.00 driver.
I would recommend rolling back to the 388.00 driver and see if you are still encountering the performance problems.
The current approved driver for the engine is the one stated above, the 388.00 driver. One thing I would also recommend checking if you are having performance issues is to check the Nvidia in-game overlay. If this is enabled it has been known to cause FPS issues in editor.
How do we know when it’s save to update our graphics driver? Is there a list somewhere? The information about driver compatibility in the documentation doesn’t help for a specific driver version.
I think a good place to put that information would be in the update logs of the engine. Otherwise it isn’t that big of a deal, because you guys respond quiet quickly and I’m so thankful for everything you guys did and still do.
