Bug - Material Import from vbx file

vbx file generated in SAP Visual Enterprise.

Importing the full resolution model (Bug_Full.vbx) works as intended.

Importing the reduced model (Bug_Reduced.vbx) produces a bug where the materials don’t get imported correctly, even though Blender and SAP Author show the correct models.

Hi,

Thank you for attaching your FBX files. I have taken a look at the assets in Maya and in Blender, and it looks like some of the geometry (or if you have any smoothing groups on the asset) may be causing the issue. When bringing it into Unreal I got errors for both the Bug_Full and Bug_Reduced models. I have attached a couple screenshots below of some of the warnings I got on import as well as the geometry. The asset also does not appear to have any UVs, which can cause issues with the materials. Some FBX exporters differ from others, have you tried exporting it as an FBX from another program or just the one mentioned above? If you can also post some screenshots of your import/export settings I can take a look at them.

-Thank you

Hi!

Thanks for checking in on the problem.

I don’t have any other program I could export the vbx from, so I’ll attach the source file for you, maybe you can use it.

I’ll also attach the reduction, export, and import settings.

Here are the import settings.

Hi,

Due to the geometry of the model and how Unreal processes this, it may be difficult to find a workaround for the errors. Since this appears to be more of an archviz type project, I recommend looking into using the Datasmith plugin. This is geared towards archviz and would let you bring a scene that you have set up directly over into Unreal with materials. Importing your assets using this plugin may help avoid errors/warnings that you would get otherwise. Here is the link where you can find more information on Datasmith, as well as register for the Beta.
