How do i change the Default materials on Meshes?

Greetings,

My problem is that the default material/textures on objects on static meshes is “Wood_Painted” instead of checkerboard. This means that everything i place blends in together and is extremely hard to have oversight on, unless you switch to wireframe.

The first image is me following allong a tutorial, the second one is the tutorial video where he has no problem, while using the exact same static meshes / project files. How am i able to change the default material static meshes and basic objects to checkerboard instead of “Wood_Painted” plain white ?
