Is it legal to use real movie posters, music or game covers, newspapers etc. in my game?

Hi,

I’m developing a horror game. Story starts in a apartment. Teen room is including music/movie posters, music albums, cd-games, magazines. Also there will be a newspapers from 1999 and I’m planing to scan real ones. Is it legal or do I have to change everything?

Including music or movie posters? For example; David Bowie poster in teen room, is it illegal?

No, Unless you have the rights you can’t use them for anything.
Not even for a small poster in a room.

For music, you can look on Youtube or just google for uncopyrighted music.
Most of the time you need to give credits, thats all.

If you are making movie and you have posters in background placed accidentally and with no clear intention, it can be ok (can be not), but designing game or 3d no content is accidentally placed.
