Landscape showing up black

I’ve been following the Landscape Quick Start guide to create a simple landscape with grass and soil. However, the landscape appears black. I’ve tried using my material along with some of the default ones, but the landscape always appears black.

I’ve browsed the internet and all I could find was “Click Fill Layer” and check the layers are set up correctly, though I have tried both and my landscape still appears black. In the Material Editor my material appears correctly but on the landscape it just does this.

Any ideas how I can fix this issue? Been at it for several days and can’t seem to fix this. (I’ve tried a new project but to no avail)

What’s your lighting setup? Could it be that your landscape just isn’t lit properly?

Oh, I think that your issue could be because you don’t have a layer info asset associated to the layers of your landscape material? You can create them easily!

Hi @anonymous_user_cee37bff, this may be a little obvious answer, but I had problems with this my first time working with landscapes in the UE4.

When you create a landscape, you have to toggle the Game View Mode (press G while in the editor!) to see it and to be able to work properly over it.

I mean, this in case that your landscape doesn’t even appear (if you don’t have a skysphere or similar, it may look as it is black!). But if your landscape is actually there, this obviously isn’t the answer…

Thank you so much for this!
