Distance Field AO artifacts

So I’ve been playing around quite briefly with this setting and I’ve seen some great results from other’s examples however I can’t figure out why I’m getting such prominent artifacts when trying it. I’ve just set up a super simple scene and I’ve tried different distance field resolutions (from 1 to 100) on the meshes but it doesn’t seem to make any difference for me. I attached a screenshot with the distance field AO visualization enabled and just the regular rendered scene.

I tried to find anyone running in to a similar artifact but most examples I’ve seen have been way less prominent and this seems different in quality to those… So I wonder if anyone has run into this issue and might know if I’ve set some setting completely off or something to cause this look.
