Undo history resets after save

I don’t know why, but my undo history gets erased every time when I save the map. AFAIK, such programs (Visual Studio, Maya, Powerpoint idk) allow to undo things after save, some programs even allow to save undo history to use after launching again (don’t know why, but maybe for someone it’s useful), but Unreal Engine doesn’t keep undo history. It’s discouraging when you see the consequences that you didn’t expect, that are caused by action that you can’t uncover, because UE says Can’t undo after: Map Saved. UE isn’t that protected from FC to leave things unsaved for a long time + there is wonderful feature of autosave. So please, fix this resetting thing

This is very annoying and it should allow you to keep it on. I have saved a few times by mistake after breaking some landscape shapes and I had to redo them.

Is this happening in 4.20? I never noticed it before. Maybe I never tried to undo something right after a save.

Not sure haven’t tried but you could make a new project, make something, save and try to undo the steps. Report back if you don’t mind, please.

I can verify that this is still an issue as of 4.20, 13/Nov/2018
VERY annoying when you want to Playtest something and save out of habit, then want to undo to get back past it but are unable to.

Any updates on this? I don’t remember this being an issue in previous versions, but 4.20 and 4.21 seem to cause issues for me. Is there an editor or project setting somewhere that I can’t find?

Same issue on 4.21.2. Losing Undo History because of a Save is very very unfriendly.

Still an issue in 4.22.2

jezzes, this is still an issue in 4.25.1 FFS

Two and half years later still an issue…

For me is not happening anymore since I don’t know when. It can be a bug that appears in some systems as I could drag and drop files to import before and now I can’t for what ever reason and I always have to use the import function.

This is still an issue in 4.26 and this is currently my #1 annoyance with the editor.

Saving regularly with “Ctrl + S” in various software has become an unconscious reflex for me, making Unreal’s undo buffer almost unusable for me.

This is still happening even in Unreal Engine 5.01, unbelievable tbh.
I’ve just lost a highly-configured blueprint that was placed in my level after deleting it, saving, playing the game, then trying to undo the deletion.

A work around is to back up your work with source control. Sadly Epic probably isnt to worried about it.
