Retarget First Person Animations For Third Person

Forgive me if this question has been posted, I’ve yet to find an answer… But I’m looking at animations on the marketplace and most of them are for first person characters. Would it be easy/possible to retarget the animations for third person characters? I’m assuming it’d be as easy as matching up the bones but I don’t want to buy anything and then it not work properly.

Thanks for all/any help !

Hey there, usually first person characters are only the arms and nothing more, with that said, if you create a character and rig it with exactly the same bone structure as the animations, then you can use them on your character because they share the same skeleton.

Thank you for your quick reply! So that being said, if I’ve created a character, imported it, rigged it to match the ue4 mannequin, then used assets made for the first person mannequin, and retargeted it, it should work?

Depending on your character you might not need to retarget, you have to make sure that when you are importing your character you choose the already existing ue 4 skeleton from the dropdown list instead of creating a new one. With this you’ll have multiple meshes sharing the same skeleton and being able to play the same animations.

theres no way to know until you actually have the skeleton. Unfortunately retargetting between first and third person skeletons is usually a bit more complicated Updated Unreal how to retarget first person arms and third person skeleton correctly - YouTube
